The islands
Hotels, ferries, and day boats. A cruise sees more sites. This sees the towns.
A land trip is a town, a bed, and a boat that comes back the same day. It is not a lesser cruise. It is a different map.
Santa CruzPuerto Ayora. The busy base. Baltra airport is a crossing away.
San CristóbalPuerto Baquerizo Moreno. The capital. The airport is on the island.
IsabelaPuerto Villamil. The large, slow island. Usually a boat, not a jet.
Flights from Quito and Guayaquil land at Baltra, which serves Santa Cruz, or at San Cristóbal. That choice is the first hop, and it is the one to get right. The island comparison is which town you actually want to wake up in.
Between the inhabited islands, people use boats. This guide does not print a timetable or a fare. Both change, and a copied schedule is how someone misses the last boat. The FCDO’s warning is the part that does not change with the season: ask who operates the boat, whether it is licensed for the run, and whether there is a life vest for you. Day tours that leave Santa Cruz for a visitor site are the same question. The Santa Cruz day-tour page is a set of booked examples, not a ferry board.
Visitor sites in the national park are not a walk you invent. The Galápagos chapter is the rule: marked trails, distance from the animals, a guide when the site requires one. A blue-footed booby that ignores you is the point.
The two-week route is this week with the Andes in front of it. A cruise is the other product: more sites, less town, a cabin you do not choose each night. Neither price belongs on this page.
